OK...as Brad said, it's getting harder and harder to make fun of things cause of touchiness and easily offended douchebags, etc.
So...can we make fun of how we can't make fun of certain things so don't expect any of that here tonight? And even maybe do some of those things we shouldn't do by way of explaining how we can no longer do things like, f'rinstance, THIS? And then do that thing? Before catching ourselves, of course.
PLUS this could create a recurring bit (if we ever go back to shows) where we can creep near some no-no line and then just as we're about to cross it, we call back to the bit.
The vehicle I'm thinking of is, "Can't Touch This," M.C. Hammer. I checked out the lyrics, the verses are easy to write to, the chorus is repetitive with open space, which we could use (akin somehow to the "Satire" prop bags?) to show things now verboten. I know it's a vague idea.
Imagine a dressing screen and a singer.
(music—guy emerges from right of screen in chinese wig and glasses)
MC
We can't do that.
(music—different guy emerges left side with sombrero and mexi-stache)
MC
We can't do that.
(music—1st guy emerges in full fairy mode)
MC
We can't do that.
(music—2nd guy emerges as orthodox jew)
MC
We can't do that!
Our lives have gotten...so hard
We can't even say...retard.
etc...
I go too far, but you get the idea, hopefully. Then, if during any later part of the show we start to get offensive, we just bring that recognizable music up again. By the third time we won't even have to say anything, the music will be all we need.
